The last Singapore Slingers game for the Singapore Challenge Series was supposed to be last Sunday, but due to a no-show from Sathyabama Stars, the management behind the Slingers has organized a replacement match this coming Sunday! And they did more than make up by inviting the most popular pro-team in the Philippines, Barangay Ginebra!!!
Almost every Filipino team that has graced the indoor stadium for the Singapore Challenge Series has ensured near sell-out crowds and great atmostphere from the basketball loving Pinoys and the game this Saturday evening will be no exception!
Venue: Singapore Indoor Stadium
Date: 17th Jan
Time: 7.30pm
Duration: Approx. 2 hrs

So do not miss the last opportunity to catch the Slingers in action this season. Grab the tickets from Sistic while it lasts!

Thanks to Nicholas, Hillary and Daphne, I was invited to watch the games of the Singapore Slingers at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in the Singapore Challenge Series. Yes, I mentioned ‘Singapore’ 3 times in the last sentence. Sue me.

For the uninitiated, the Slingers is a Singapore professional basketball team which were founded in 2006 and have been playing in the Australian NBL for the past two seasons. In order to continue in their plans of playing in an ASEAN professional league, they have withdrawn from the Australian NBL in July this year and set up this interim competition held in Singapore to prepare them for the direction that they are undertaking.
I heard of the Slingers early last year through newspapers but being a football player, the news of such a local basketball club had me as interested as a lion with a plate of cabbage in front of it. After hearing about the team again through a few bloggers followed by the bugging invitation from Daphne, I decided to bring along KuKuNehNeh (KKNN) and watch the 1st two games of the Slingers against a Philippines team called Air21 which were played on 16th and 21st of September.
What can I say! After watching the two matches, I AM A CONVERT! The action on the courts were fast paced, the players were no amateurs and there were plenty of drama with many heated moments during the games. KKNN is totally attracted to a Slingers player called Eric Sandrin and during last game on the 21st, she was shouting at one point going,
“ERICCC~!!! I LOVE YOUUUU~~~!!!!!”
Eric Sandrin, if you are reading this, my girlfriend has never shouted ‘I Love You’ to me before. I want to strangle you if not for the fact that you are one of my favourite players from the team. Of course there are other factors like you being 2.06 metres tall and having all that strength but I shall not go into that…

Eric is a total joy to watch. Besides looking the part with his Korean-American heritage, he is a monster on the court with his defensive and attacking capabilities and I totally dig his aggresive style which rile up the opponents and that creates chaos on the courts when the opponents fail to keep their cool. There are many more gems in the Slingers team like the sharpshooter Darren Ng who is a doctor by the way and blogs over here. I shall stop talking about the players from here onwards before this turns into a 1000 word essay and turn you readers away.
Support the Slingers and be their 6th Man!

The thing that is apparent and very sad is that the turnout for the opposition team was much more than the people who came to support the Slingers. Do run over to Sistic’s website or Slingers website to find out how you can purchase the affordable tickets to their games. Trust me! You won’t regret it!
Or if you are a blogger, please email me using the contact form found here and I shall try to get you guys some complimentary tickets.
Next game is on the 30th of September (Tuesday) at 7.40pm! I can’t wait!!!!

I was pretty lucky to have been offered 2 tickets for free to Mayday’s (五月天) concert, held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on the 26th April. It was a gift from my Uncle who is one of the senior directors at the Indoor Stadium. SHIOK RIGHT? JEALOUS ANOT???

.
On an unrelated note…
I brought up to Ruifang on Saturday that almost all the bloggers call their other half or their close friends by nicknames.
Sheylara calls him The Goonfather.
Rinaz calls him CartCart.
Peggy Chang calls him MiuMiu
Xiaxue calls her mum MoMo
So, from now onwards, Ruifang is known as KuKuNehNeh. (Don’t flame me. Half of it was her idea)
.
So, KuKuNehNeh and I were quite kiasu and we left Ang Mo Kio 2 hrs before the concert at 8pm. It was a wise choice in the end as the car park at the stadium was quickly filled up not long after we arrived at 6.30pm. Being the lazy asses that we are, we concluded that it was too far to join our friends for dinner at Leisure Park. What did we do to curb the hunger?

Eat BAO at 7-11 lor.
The both of us weren’t big time fans of Mayday and I only really listened to 2 old albums of theirs and KuKuNehNeh has only listened to ONE. Having such little love compared to the swarm of people flooding the stadium, we can’t help but snigger at the youngsters posing with their Mayday t-shirts and laugh at the crazy energy of the throngs of fans (*cough* Yiting *cough cough* Yanling *cough*) inside the stadium.

Panoramic shot from KuKuNehNeh’s LG Viewty. Cool eh?
.
One such crazy fan was ‘sitting’ to the right of us. I wouldn’t say sitting actually, because she was standing up more than 3/4 of the time and blocking our view. She was shaking her booty, bouncing up and down, nodding her head with fury and playing with imaginary drums with her two blue light sticks.

.
At certain points in time, she really look like she was having spasms. Nearing the end of the concert, one of her light sticks flew out of her hand and into the sky, and landed right in front of us. Without breaking the beat of her spasm-y dance, she turned her head and looked at the group of us sheepishly. Realizing that her blue lightstick is gone, she promptly takes out another stick. EVEN MORE POWER ONE!!!

Bigger and in rainbow color!
.
The couple to my left laughed and said,
“Wah! Got spare!“
.
WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
The band really had a lot of energy and knows how to keep the crowd going and I really love the tone of 阿信’s voice. It’s a pity that me and KuKuNehNeh enjoyed their old hits so much more. Many of their new hits don’t have that kind of impact and identity that the old ones have. All the above reduced our enjoyment of the show.
All the above…. and that spasm-y woman.
