Junior Plays Uno – Dog VS Lovebird

How lame can my title get while trying to think of something to correctly represent this post? Haha!

Uno is heading back to Ang Mo Kio today to meet her grandmother KuKuNehNeh who is probably excited enough to accidentally crush the baby lovebird with a bear hug. Uno probably won’t appreciate strippers nor alcohol for a farewell gift and so I decided to let her meet my resident dog, Junior.

So…..

This is all that is left of Uno after Junior played Uno….

WAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!!

Junior is quite the coward and he is actually a little wary of Bluey the last time she came around for a 3 day stay. This time, all he did was to take a few sniffs of Uno to decide that this little bird which is about the size of his thigh, is not to be trifled with; and so he promptly turned away as well.

Uno seems pretty oblivious to Junior during the experience. She probably took a look at him and wondered if it’s too early for lunch.

Gonna miss taking care of this little lovebird!

Uno Is A Month Old!

uno baby lovebird 300x225

Time flies and Uno is now a month old! The cute little baby lovebird has grown so rapidly that I often tell KuKuNehNeh that I will wake up to see an ostrich sized lovebird soon.

Watch the videos below to check out the difference in size of a 15 day old Uno and a 28 day old Uno!

Amazing right? He is starting to nibble on seeds on his own and hopefully he’ll be fully weaned real quick.

Uno Is Here For The Week!

No prizes for guessing who is BLUEy and who is GREENbean

I haven’t been updating on the lovebirds and so to summarize. Bluey has recovered from her toe injury and has been doing well. Greenbean proved that perseverance worked and he finally won Bluey’s heart (the other side of the story is that Bluey got horny and gave in) and they actually started a family… or at least tried to. Bluey laid 4 eggs in total but only 1 egg managed to hatch and what better to name the little lovebird than Uno!

Uno is here in my house this week because she is just short of 3 weeks old and needs to be hand fed 4-5 times a day to ensure that her cut tummy is satisfied and she becomes tame from all the human handling.

Hi! I'm Uno and I'm 3 weeks old!

The picture above either makes people squeal in delight or disgust so bear with me if you belong to the latter group.

It is by no means an easy feat to hand feed baby lovebirds with her being so young. Bluey was already close to 4 weeks old when we got her and we only need to feed her 2 times a day. Uno was robbed extracted from the nest at 14 days old and needs to be fed 5-6 times a day. Her baby formula has to be also at the right temperature at 41 to 42°C. Too cold and she’ll refuse to eat it; too hot and I’ll cook her inside out.

Uno is quite travelled for her young age and has been staying at Ang Mo Kio, went to Rasa Sentosa Resort for a stay over the weekend and is now residing at Jurong West for the week. So to make her feel more at home, I made a little tent for her.

The strand of millet is to encourage her to wean.

Yup. Uno has a tent in her tank.

Like the last time when I had Bluey over for 4 days, I just hope I keep little Uno alive so that KuKuNehNeh keeps me alive.

HUAT AHHHHH!!!!

Check Uno’s growth process at KuKuNehNeh’s blog.

That Ain’t Poo! It’s……

I was sitting on the couch with Bluey perched on my left shoulder when I felt a warm sensation just above my shoulder blade. Thinking that Bluey has used me as a toilet again, I turned my head to the left as I tried to look for the poo and looking very much like a bad impersonation of an owl; I spotted a black spot and turned around to call out to KuKuNehNeh.

“Eh Dear, I think Bluey shit on me, help me wipe leh.”

She was handling Greenbean and automatically grabbed a sheet of toilet paper and walked towards me.

She paused in her footsteps and spoke with mirth in her voice, “Dear! That is not shit!”

“Huh? Then what is that?”

“IT IS YOUR MOLE LAR!”

Our lovebirds, Bluey and Greenbean bring such joy and laughter in our lives and as much it is painful to see them not getting along even after spending 4 weeks together, it is even more painful to see that Bluey’s injured toe is still not healing despite all the medication thus far. The pus in Bluey’s left toe has not even shrunk a millimetre and the poor bird has visible patches all over her body due to all the feather dropping she has been experiencing for the past 3-4 weeks. We are seeing the vet, Dr. Gloria of Mt. Pleasant soon this Friday and we would probably ask if she is confident enough to do an operation to take out the pus. She has expressed before that it is difficult to operate on a bird of Bluey’s size but we hope that it can be done.

I really, really hope the best for Bluey’s toe, the last thing we want for the intelligent, adorable, 5-month-old lovebird is to have her lose her life or a leg.
