GreenBean – Our 2nd Lovebird!

KuKuNehNeh has been itching to get a 2nd lovebird for quite sometime already and it didn’t help that she laid eyes on this lovebird sitting pretty lonely in a cage with birds of other species at this shop we walked by 2 weeks ago. This greenish looking lovebird was as much as an outcast as Bluey was when we first saw her. KKNN has this strange attraction to outcasts which bothers me now that I realize how attracted she is to me.

Knowing that Bluey is still recovering from his toe infection, I advised her against purchasing another bird as it would probably cause more problems. She probably wanted to reach out to a nearby perch and shove it up my ass but she didn’t and reluctantly agreed to not buy another bird.

Fast forward to last Saturday and we were on our way to the vet to let her do a check on Bluey’s toe, we saw the same green lovebird again; this time in another cage full of lovebirds. But every other lovebird was in a pair and the poor little thing was again, the outcast. I hate to call it fate but there was definitely some strange connection between KKNN and the green lovebird and it seemed to be the friendliest of the lot in the cage.

And so, she bought the bird.

Introducing…

GREENBEAN!

Greenbean is quite the darling! She is about 4 months old which makes her a month younger than Bluey. Up till now, Bluey hasn’t been accepting of Greenbean and is acting very much like a spoilt only child of us and would constantly bully Greenbean by biting pretty hard on her legs or body whenever she gets a chance. We would separate them of course and right now they are sleeping separately in different cages.

Greenbean had her wings clipped as well and she was so fascinated when she first saw Bluey fly that she tried to emulate her and failed miserably and ended up bumping herself into furniture. Since then, she tries so hard to follow whatever Bluey is doing, like a sibling does to an older one. Getting bitten at hardly stopped her from trying to befriend the aggressive Bluey.

Ain’t Greenbean a beauty!

Can’t wait for her to build trust with us and start growing her wings back so that she can fly around like Bluey does!

Having Her Bird Over For 4 Days

KKNN was over at Bali for a holiday with her girlfriends for the last 4 days and I was tasked to babysit Bluey.

Taking care of a girlfriend’s precious bird is not a task to be trifled with considering how much she loves that little feathered creature. My mind was constantly running scenarios of 101 things that could happen to Bluey in my care.

She could fly away and never to found again. She could be homesick and starve herself to death. She could have been frightened by my dog, Junior, and died from fright. My dog, Junior, could have died from fright seeing Bluey and cause my Mum to go berserk and cook Bluey for dinner.

In the end, Bluey caused more harm to me than I have caused her. I had her cage in my room so as to not disturb my other family members but ended up disrupting my sleep instead. I am a snoozer in the mornings and usually I get satisfaction from muting my phone alarm and going back to sleep. For the last 4 days, whenever Bluey sees that I am slightly awake, she would unabashedly use every noisy toy in her cage to generate as much commotion as possible while chirping shrilly in an attempt to get attention. I try to ignore her and get back to dreaming but the harder I try to mentally drown out her antics or shush her, she would generate even louder noises. It’s amazing how much noise a bird of this size can make.

Poor Bluey however, has an injured toe since January and despite visiting the vet twice, she hasn’t recovered yet. And because she has stopped her anti-inflammation syrup for the last 4 days, her toe has started to swell and it is probably quite painful for her as I see her losing balance and hopping around gingerly more frequently.

It’s very heartbreaking to see the little bird like that. We are going to seek a 2nd opinion for her poor toe tomorrow.

Bluey The Lovebird – First Flight

This is too cute and I have to share it with you guys.

Prior to this video, Bluey had trouble hopping down a height of 10cm or less; so we didn’t expect him/her to actually fly upwards and onto my camera! Bluey probably had it in him/her and all it needed was confidence and enough curiosity.

10 Things A Guy Cannot Say When Owning A Bird

There are things a guy cannot say when he owns a bird like Bluey the Lovebird. The girls pretty much get away by saying the same things though.

For example:

“Do you want to see my bird?”

“Would you like to touch my bird?”

“Be gentle with my bird will ya!”

“Isn’t my bird very cute?”

“She likes my bird very much!”

“My bird likes being stroked around the head.”

“My bird is bigger than yours.”

“My bird like cozy and warm holes.”

“Look at how fast my bird grows!”

“I can play with my bird for hours!”

See what I mean? icon lol
